BOXING DAY -Retrospect EP ALBUM REVIEW

NIGHT LIKE THIEVES GROUP

With influences ranging from: The Wonder Years, and Neck Deep, to blink-182, and Angels and Airwaves this pop-punk quintet from Belgium blends upbeat rock with catchy, yet beautifully depressing hooks to create the perfect modern meets throwback mix.

In 2016 the band formed and started writing original tunes and by the latter half of 2016 had their first show. In the coming months, Boxing Day started playing shows more heavily, ultimately writing enough tunes for their first EP "Lost and Found" (released in june 2017 through Bearded Punk Records) while not far after supporting bands like No Trigger, Not on Tour, F.O.D. and Nowhere.

The band went back to the studio in 2018 for the second time with Tim De Gieter (Much Luv Studio) to record their follow-up EP, Retrospect, released on December 26th, 2018.

The band's writing and sound has definitely grown since their first EP with the consistent combination of upbeat melodies that comes with modern pop-punk while also dipping their toes in the water of the emo genre blending that all together with a sound all their own.

Title track RETROSPECT reminds me of a Wonder Years meets Get Up Kids tune with a more melancholy yet up-beat sound while WHISPER LIKE YOU MEAN IT (perhaps a nod to The Starting Line album Say It Like You Mean It) has more of a Neck Deep meets, well, Starting Line sound with hardcore punk beats that switch into straight 4 on the floor, catchy rock riffs and driving rhythm section.
