GOOD RIDDANCE - "Our Great Divide" SINGLE REVIEW

cap'n

GOOD RIDDANCE recently released their second single “OUR GREAT DIVIDE,” from their forthcoming album THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS which dropped July 19th via Fat Wreck Chords. Produced and mixed once again by Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore who’ve been at the helm of every Good Riddance album since 1999’s Operation Phoenix, their latest endeavor Thoughts and Prayers boasts the band’s signature sound of highly melodic, fast-paced punk, but with some new twists such as a song sung mostly in Spanish entitled, “Lo Que Sucede.”

“I always wanted to push myself to write a song in Spanish,” Rankin says. “I can speak Spanish pretty well, and I’ve always thought that punk and hardcore songs sung in Spanish sound especially pissed off.”

Their latest single, “Our Great Divide” reflects the unprecedented polarization of the modern American society which blasts over power punk rock chords and blaring vocals. Without knowing much about the band and/or hearing only a handful of songs, especially their latest single, one can determine what side of the fence the band sits on when it comes to the current presidential administration.

Always being outspoken on such issues frontman Rankin goes on to say: “I had this naive thought when our band first started that we’re going to change the world, and we’re going to open people’s eyes to the injustices of the world,” Good Riddance may not have changed the world, but they’ve opened plenty of eyes. Fans constantly tell the band how their music introduced them to vegetarianism, social awareness, and political action.
