HOTEL BOOKS - I'll Leave The Light On Just In Case ALBUM REVIEW
Hotel Books have surprise released their brand new album "I'll Leave The Light On Just In Case" today via InVogue Records. This is the band's first release since their album "Equivalency" that was released back in the fall 2017. The album is produced by Jonathan Sherer and was recorded at multiple locations in Ohio.
The album combines multiple genre influences with very emotional lyrics ranging from indie to hard rock with musical influences from Modest Mouse and The Postal Service to bands like Weezer, Black Flag and Skillet.
The idea to release an album as a surprise was an exciting idea to InVogue Records founder Nick Moore who stated: "When Cameron came to me about surprise releasing the album I was 100% into the idea. It's very refreshing to do things against the industry standards, it gets boring doing the same thing over and over. This album touches on depression, pop culture and it is so intelligently done. From the music to the lyrics, it's one of the strongest Hotel Books albums to date."
The entire album takes your mind and body on a transcendental trip with moments of immense melancholy and joy. The music itself projects you into an almost different world with its ambient tone and nature while lyrics at times can be almost as spoken word poems that drop into sung out melodies, it reminds me of old school Twenty One Pilots or Hobo Johnson's style of mixing word with poem.
The last four tracks of the record are broken into parts. Each telling a story almost as chapters while holding together the collective "book". It's one of the most interesting albums I've heard in quite a long time. If you're in the mood to send yourself into a trance, listen to "I'll Leave The Light On Just In Case" in its entirety!
