KAYZO - "Unleashed" ALBUM REVIEW

kayzo

kayzo 2

Punk rock has always been something that pushes boundaries and in its unstoppable music efforts, keeps spreading itself into a never-ending universe of vast mutil-sub-genres even trickling into the mainstream at times while always staying true at its core. Enters Houston born and now Los Angeles resident, Hayden Capuozzo better known as KAYZO, who has become one of the most sought after young producer/DJs in the business. Well, "what the hell does he have to do with punk rock" you ask? The answer lies in his star-studded album UNLEASHED which features alternative rock and pop-punk heavyweights like Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low, Frank Zummo from Sum 41, shYbeast, Of Mice & Men, Underoath, Our Last Night and more.

Unleashed follows-up 2018’s OVERLOAD, which currently boasts over 13 million streams on Spotify and has been recently featured on Rolling Stone, Billboard, Dancing Astronaut, EDM.com and more. With Unleashed, KAYZO continues to view his pop-punk roots through an EDM lens, seamlessly blending rock, metal, trap, bass, dubstep, and more into a cohesive and wholly unique sound.

Each song brings something new and different to the table, whereas most bands blend an entire album into one sound, KAYZO takes the approach of turning each track into something different, fresh and new making the entire album one giant cinematic experience for your ears.

- With a tune like latest single CRUEL LOVE which features Frank Zummo of Sum 41 and shYbeast the tune takes a straight forward pop rock approach with a heavy punk rock underbelly of Zummo's punk rock drumming, and shYbeast's melodic vocals over electric guitars, and just enough EDM/trap sounds to not go overboard.

- While a tune like UP IN FLAMES featuring Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low has more of a "trash-pop" sound, a term coined by Gaskarth and Mark Hoppus of blink-182 upon unveiling their new synth-pop band SIMPLE CREATURES, the tune is a total contrast to the previously mentioned CRUEL LOVE.

- Yet again, KAYZO goes down a different, darker road with the tune NIGHT TERROR featuring YULTRON and Of Mice & Men that has more of a soundtrack vibe for a horror movie going on featuring minor chords, haunting synth patches and the unforgettable screams of the metal band. Just as the tune haunts your dreams forever with its demonic EDM meets nursery rhyme sound, the tune clicks into a hellish trap meets metalcore sound with bass drops, blast beats and screaming.

If you're sick and tired of the same old, same old, listen to Unleashed, there isn't a moment that goes by in this entire album where something new isn't happening and you're not constantly, pleasantly surprised. Unleashed is OUT NOW! Check it out in the links below!
