KOBANES - In With The Out Patients ALBUM REVIEW

Self-described as the "Most Hated Pop-Punk Band" Chicago's punk rock trio KOBANES serve as a portal back to a time when 4-chords, fast tempos and heartfelt lyrics were all that mattered to the punk rock world. Their style is a throwback to the amazing transitional period in time when punk went pop. All of its grime and rough outer-edge were all evident, but there was this new and unique texture to its innercore. Tunes shifting from just being some tough asshole shifted to being about the tough asshole who could talk about relationships, break-ups, growing up. All of this is evident in KOBANE's lyrics.
With over a decade of touring and albums under their belt, as well as adding jobs and fatherhood to the mix, the seasoned trio shows no signs in letting up anytime soon recently opening up for the likes of newcomers to the punk rock world The Masked Intruders.
KOBANES - THAT DAY
Their latest EP IN WITH THE OUT PATIENTS is a reminder of a simpler time of punk rock with the straight punk rock meets poppy attitude of bands like The Ramones, Descendants, Dead Milkmen and The Queers from the straight forward guitar playing and Tommy Ramone style drumming down to keeping each song around 3 minutes. Their previous album was even named TOMMY RAMONE'S DRUMS. The guys add a few loops in the mix such as the pipe organ sound in SOMEDAY via IWTOP, (my favorite tune), to writing a song about folding laundry and "redding up" the house I.E. NEAT FREAK. However, the core essence of punk rock tune-age is all still met with closed fists and bobbing head.
