Southern California pop-punk quartet NIGHTS LIKE THIEVES are back at it again with their sophomore album appropriately entitled "SOPHOMORE SLUMP THE EP." Recently featured on The Pop Punk Dad, these guys feature hard hitting pop rock/punk songs about relationships, heartbreak and growing up. You can check out the feature/review on their debut album "Light The Fuse And Run" HERE!
The band dropped this EP during the latter of 2018 with a December 1st release. The band had over 5K Spotify streams from the record in the first week it was out, while also releasing CD and vinyl of the album as well.
The band's writing has definitely grown since their first album still combining that mixture of upbeat, emotional melodies with harder pop-punk that brings back that nostalgic emo/pop-punk sound in their own way. The band's sound reminds me of Falling In Reverse meets Saves The Day where there are some definite upbeat, high ranged vocal parts in tunes like opening track RED ROSES, but also dynamically contrasted with the following track THIS BROKEN SATELLITE which reminds me of something that The Used would put out.
Following track STATELINE picks back up and is another tune I feel like is a cross between The Used and Saves The Day or Mae. The high range vocals, heavy guitars and gut punching drums never quit throughout this record except for the last track TAKE THE TIME TO NOTICE which rounds out the four track EP with a pallet cleansing acoustic track featuring ambient guitar riffs, gang vocals and reverb vocals.
