With just weeks to go before the release of their highly anticipated tenth studio album, Bad Summer, Maryland's Ballyhoo! have unveiled another preview with the soaring new single "Thunderstorms," available everywhere now.
Produced by John Feldmann (Blink-182, Goldfinger, Avril Lavigne), "Thunderstorms" showcases everything that has made Ballyhoo! one of alternative music's most enduring independent success stories. Bursting with huge melodies, driving guitars, and an instantly memorable chorus, the track perfectly captures the band's signature blend of beach pop-punk, alternative rock, and carefree summertime energy while hinting at the ambitious scope of Bad Summer, arriving August 28 via Right Coast Records.
For more than two decades, Ballyhoo! have built a career on songs that balance infectious hooks with honest songwriting, earning a devoted following through relentless touring and an unmistakable live energy. While Bad Summer finds the band pushing their sound forward with one of their biggest and boldest productions to date, "Thunderstorms" proves that their greatest strength remains the same: writing songs that are impossible not to sing along with.
Produced by Feldmann—a longtime influence on the band—the album marks a full-circle collaboration that has elevated Ballyhoo!'s sound without sacrificing the chemistry and personality fans have loved from the beginning.
"Ballyhoo! were a joy to work with!" says Feldmann. "They are all such incredible musicians and super open-minded, and we made an awesome album! I can't wait for everyone to hear it... So stoked to be included in this musical masterpiece."
Front man Howi Spangler adds, “We knew we wanted the next thing we did to be special and I’ve always wanted to make a record with Feldy. We put ourselves out there and took a big swing to make that happen. The record turned out even better than I thought it would. We’re so very proud of BAD SUMMER and we can’t wait for you to hear it August 28th!”
Following the release of "Bad Summer," "Cali Girl II," and the fan-favorite "I Guess I'll Go Fuck Myself," "Thunderstorms" arrives as the final taste of an album that positions Ballyhoo! squarely in the sweet spot between hook-driven pop-punk, alternative rock, and feel-good summer anthems. It's a record that feels equally at home alongside the infectious energy of Bowling for Soup, the punk spirit of Less Than Jake, and the melodic songwriting that has become Ballyhoo!'s calling card.
The release comes as Ballyhoo! make their long-awaited European debut, with performances at BrakRock and Punk Rock Holiday among a run of international club dates before returning to North America this fall for a tour with Bowling for Soup. Looking ahead, the band will also join the 311 Caribbean Cruise in March 2027.
Nearly twenty-five years into their career, Ballyhoo! continue to prove that evolution and fun don't have to be mutually exclusive. Bad Summer is the sound of a band still writing some of its strongest songs, and "Thunderstorms" is the perfect reminder that the forecast for Ballyhoo! has never looked brighter.
