Losing a friend or family member is never easy. No matter how many times it happens or we see it coming, the preparation for it always takes a part of you away. which is exactly what happened after vocalist Liz Mauritz of Gold Steps lost her grandfather. With not only her personal loss, she struggled watching her grandmother lose the love of her life after being married for over 70 years.
With dark comes light, with sadness, hope. She turned her loss into something amazing with the release of her band's latest single Empty Space. Liz went on about the song saying: “Seeing my grandmother cope with my grandfather passing devastated me; their marriage was the bar I set for my own, and I can’t imagine losing my other half. The pain of losing a loved one is universal, and “Empty Space” is about the aftermath and anguish of life moving on while you’re stuck in the cycle of grief.” The song debuted on April 29th, 2019 which would have been Liz's grandfather's birthday.
