Russian metal powerhouse SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL has released their highly anticipated new album GRIZZLY, which dropped on July 18 via Sumerian Records. Featuring the latest single “Imdead”, as well as recent releases like “Song 3 (feat. BABYMETAL) and “Russian Grizzly In America”, GRIZZLY is Slaughter To Prevail’s most punishing release to date. The album smashes all expectations of modern metal, solidifying Slaughter To Prevail’s place at the forefront of heavy music.

SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL are becoming somewhat of a household name, even run-of-the-mill metal fans who don't listen to the band have seen lead singer Alex The Terrible wrestle bears, play with tigers or bare knuckle box on social media sites. The band first caught my eyes back when the song Demolisher first dropped a few years back, and I couldn't believe the raw power behind the band, Alex's voice and the sheer intensity of the fans performing football stadium-sized Walls of Death in the crowd, as I saw first-hand at the Vans Warped Tour in Washington DC a few months back.

Slaughter To Prevail's new album Grizzly, shares the same brutality as the band's previous records, with an all-new polished coat of paint. The album kicks off with track BANDITO, an appropriate title as the track itself feels like an all-hell-breaks-loose shoot-out at a Western salloon. One of the most standout features of the song isn’t the brutal vocals or the heavy drums, but the killswitch harmonic part on the guitars. It’s the nuances like this that makes this album super polished, and we’re only on track one!

Track 2 is one of my favorite on the record, RUSSIAN GRIZZLY IN AMERICA. It’s the first song I heard when the band announced a new record a few months back. The track fades in quietly then detonates like a nuclear explosion. As brutal as the track is, the music video is the exact opposite. It’s hilarious and brings a lot of parody with the whole “grizzly bear” thing.

When I heard Ronnie Radke was involved with the record I was hooked, I’ve been a long time Escape the Fate and Falling In Reverse fan, and the dynamic of Ronnie’s voice fits perfectly in track 3’s IMDEED. Ronnie’s high screams paralleled with Alex’s low blood curdling roars are a great duality in the forefront of the backing blast beats and breakdowns in the background.

BABAYAKA is another song that lives up to its name. For anyone who’s a fan of the John Wick franchise, we all know that BABAYAKA is the Russian word for Boogie Man. The track sounds like it’s straight out of a slasher film. The thunderous beats feel like a stabbing knife out of Scream, and the roars of Alex’s vocals feel like a tornado hitting you.

VIKING is a song I vaguely remember hearing at Warped Tour. The football field sized mosh pit to this song was a sight to see, it felt like a Viking battlefield. Track 6’s KOSCHEI has a total red herring vibe as the song starts with an acoustic guitar

One of the craziest matchups imaginable is track 7's SONG 3 featuring none other than BABYMETAL. It's sweet, sour, heavy and soft all at the same time. Seriously, when worlds collide. Track 8's LIFT THAT SHIT makes me want to go to the gym and bench until i can't anymore with BEHELIT not far behind it in track 9. The remainder of the album to me runs together perfectly ending with track 13's 1984.
