Fort Worth TX, pop-punk/alt. rock quintet FURTHER NORTH recently dropped their forthcoming EP Under The Clouds.

The band's sound is pretty much how their official bio states: "Further North is what happens when your mp3 player gets stuck on the 90's and 2000's emo with the likes of Jimmy Eat World and Andrew McMahon." With influences form the formerly mentioned bands to artists like MxPx and Relient K, the quintet are absolute music to my ears. I don't know if it's my upbringing or bias opinion on bands that can dish out killer harmonies but the band also gives off this 80's rock vibe reminiscent of bands like Survivor and Journey with their complex harmonies and high-ranged vocal melodies coupled with 2 guitars and a keyboard, these guys are the whole package.

Which leads me to their latest album UNDER THE CLOUDS. Six tracks of pure nostalgic pop-punk gold combined with an even more nostalgic feel and even an indie-rock vibe here and there thrown in for good measure.

Tunes like TAKING YOU WITH ME, and SHINE IT ON ME show off the band's homage/influences reminding me of bands like Jack's Mannequin and Relient K where tunes like opening track and latest single LIVE TO LOVE and FACE THE FACTS are straight up pop-punk tunes with that 80's rock feel.

Tunes like TAKING YOU WITH ME and acoustic track THE DISSONANCE are great pallet cleansers for the album, showing off the band's overall diversity and dynamics while not being so far gone from the band's inital sound.
