Neck Deep - "Lowlife" SINGLE REVIEW
Earlier last month, UK pop-punk band Neck Deep announced their forth full-length studio album entitled All Distortions Are Intentional, due out July 24 via Hopeless Records.
The album tells the story of protagonist Jett, who lives in a place dubbed Sonderland, a combination of “Wonderland” and the somewhat obscure word “sonder”: the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own, with their own ambitions and worries. “It’s that strange existential realization that you are not the entire world,” explains singer Ben Barlow. “Everyone around you feels and lives the same way that you do. You’re just an extra in their story.”
The first single from the album “Lowlife” introduces fans to Sonderland along with Jett and the love of his life, Alice. Honestly this is unlike any Neck Deep song I have ever heard before. I'm not quite sure if it's the new introduction to bassist Seb Barlow to the mix or the conceptual aspects thrown into the song, but this one song along has me so pumped for the new record.
I'm not saying that this "new" Neck Deep is unlike their former albums, there is still a ton of that in this song alone with reminiscence of songs like In Bloom, Where Do We Go When We Go and She's a God with their upbeat gloss pop sound combined with the underbelly of a raw, fast pop-punk song. If Lowlife is just the tip of the iceberg for All Distortions Are Intentional, then you can be rest assured that the rest of the album is going to be absolutely amazing.
