If there was ever a "Step 1 in movies" to be made for any dad to watch that are in bands out there, this movie is it. It's a documentary following lead singer Jim Lindberg of Pennywise as he prepares for tour, goes on tour, and talks about his years missing out on his kids growing up. If you've followed Pennywise's career you know that Jim left the band for a while which is where a lot of that story unfolds.
In the midst of all of that there are all of the stories of other punk rock, BMX, and skateboard fathers talking about their experiences being sometimes thrown into a polar opposite world in which they were used to. Guys like Mark Hoppus (blink-182), Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Fat Mike (NOFX), Matt Freeman & Lars Frederiksen (Rancid) and Tony Hawk & Rick Thorne recount their days of their dads either being there, walking out, or not giving a shit.
The Other F Word Trailer:
It's definitely one of my favorite documentaries overall, a good bit of swearing so keep the kids away for this one, tons of potty humor for those with a mature personality but who still has a good high school teen sense of humor.
Amazon: 4.7 out of 5.
Rotton Tomatoes: 6.5 out of 10.
My Rating: 7.5 out of 10.
For me this documentary is great and the replay value is definitely up there, I've watched it over again quite a few times. It would be cool to see a second one come out with a different round of dads and their experiences and back stories and maybe a hiatus of a band, divorce or even a regrouping of a band or crazy enough follow the dad up until birth of his kid.
